Oh Gae Sugae Shik (The Five Precepts)
The Insence Marks, Entry 2
Dharma Brother Joe Siemion (now "Cheon-do"), taking the incense marks from Chong Go Sunim that will serve to remind him of the precepts. Joe is a teacher and a degree-holder from his university studies in comparative religions. He also one adept in chants--not only Korean Buddhist ones, but in Christian, Muslim, and other faiths. He is quite knowledgeable academically in the areas of Islam, Christianity, and of course in The Dharma. He is also one of the founders of the Saturday Sangha lead by Chong Go Sunim, our teacher at the Buddhist Library of Seoul, near Anguk Station. Chong Go Sunim is a monk of the Chogae order who lives and practices at this temple, Han Maum Seon Won, or One Mind/One Heart Zen Center, which was founded by Dae Heng Kun Sunim, or Master (Nun) Dae Heng.
Dharma Brother Joseph Bengivenni (now "Gil-do"), a teacher, photographer, and expert on tea from Nova Scotia, taking the incense marks from Chong Go Sunim that will serve to remind him of the precepts.
Dear Friends, Family, Dharma Brothers and Dharma Sisters,Sugae Shik (The Precepts Ceremony) Entry 1
Having already taken our precepts-- meaning we made promises to live compassionate, mindful, and upright lives; and having formally petitioned for the Dharma, or The Teaching of the Buddha, promising to try to attain enlightenment and to save all beings from ignorance--Chong Go Sunim, our teacher and the ordained monk of the Chogae Order of Korea who transmitted our new names from Dae Heng Kun Sunim to us--prepares to make the incense marks in our arms that will serve to remind us of the precepts.

Dharma Brother Joe Siemion (now "Cheon-do"), one of the founders of the Saturday Sangha at the Buddhist Library of Seoul, near Anguk Station. The study and Dharma talk there is lead by Chong Go Sunim, our teacher. Joe is a teacher himself, and a degreed student of comparative religions. Here he is taking his precepts at Han Maum Seon Won, or One Heart/One Mind Zen Center in Anyang, South Korea.

This is my Dharma Brother, Marcus and me, before Chong Go Sunim, waiting to receive our insence marks in our forearms.

For All
I shall bow 108 or more bows daily
I bow to the true nature and interconnectedness of all things
I bow to the potential of all humanity to realize peace
And I bow to the reality of humanity's suffering
And I shall recite mantras and see the images that go with them
to change my habit energy
to be a more harmonious human being
for a reduction in pain and suffering around me
And I shall Sit in Meditation, or Wadu
to open myself to the trueness of the the doer of all things, or
The Juingong, the true nature of the uni-verse,
and 'my' connection~my part in it
to be an eye and a mouth and a scribe
a maker of pictures
a perciever of the nature of all things
for the benefit of peace, love, harmony
and the Middle Way
avoiding extremes of ego
to find 'my' Buddha nature, as a human oracle for harmony
And I shall Walk in Meditation
in a rhythm to signify mindful movement
in circles, as all things are in motion
as in Karma
as in Smasara
as in Nirvana
to end the cycles of violence
inherent in selfish arguement
inherent in baseless, selfish suspicion
inherent in wanton desire
inherent in idelness, and waste of human talent
inherent in greed
inherent in ignorance
and inherent in unreborn mind
And I shall pray in promises, a prayer offered before each significant action
before sleep
upon waking
prior to the beauty of meeting with others
before a break of fast
in great thanks to my nourishment
and to its sources in nature
and to its providers
promising to partake of it
for the doing of good and the making of harmony
And I shall read daily of either Scripture and or Dharma
spoken over the centuries from the teaching of
His Holiness, Sidhardtha Gautama
One of Many, but
Our Great Buddha
and the words of
Daeheng Kun Suhnim
Master Thich Nhat Han
His Holiness, The Dalai Lama
Master Suzuki
Master Seung Sahn
And I shall recite mantras to speak to the ill of my mind
to change it to be holy
to change it to leave the crudity of society
find it in the place of harmony
for better love of this soule
and the love and comfort of others
I do this for all
For all is one
and if not, devided
